TubeProfiler

The TubeProfiler is a multi axis non contact mill gauge providing high accuracy cross section profile and shape measurement on hot or cold tubes. Suitable for small or large sized steel products, the system will display the true cross section profile and provide min, max diameter, ovality, length waviness, length, straightness and other size information. Suitable for measuring various shaped tubes including round, square and rectangle.

Measurement System

he TubeProfiler is an non oscillating profile measurement system designed for in-line measurement of products in tube mills. The system measures on hot or cold rolled material passing through the gauge and present measurement in 2D and 3D graphs as well as numerical values of key figures. 

Measuring method

The TubeProfiler uses up to 24 synchronized laser triangulation sensors mounted on a circular base plate with the lasers directed to the centre of the wheel. The mounting angle between the lasers is 10 degrees and each laser precisely measures the distance to the hot or cold tube. The software incorporates a patented algorithm ensuring that the movement of the tube in the measuring field does not affect the measuring accuracy. This method gives a high number of highly detailed cross sections which provides a much more detailed analysis of the shape than a typical 4 or 6 axis shadow based measuring system. The system incorporates an automated self centring mechanism to adjust the height of the measuring wheel to suit the mill pass line. A pyrometer measures the material temperature for hot to cold conversion of the measurements. A large remote display shows key measured values.

Round pipes from Ø 1mm to Ø 2000mm
Square and rectangular pipes from 5mm to 650mm

Software

The software is designed for client/server mode. Several clients can be connected to one server. The server software collects data from the measurement system and handles communication with 2nd level systems. The client software calculates and displays the shape of the measured product graphically with cursors for max/min and two selectable cursors. Trend graphs show key dimensions over the length of the product. Numerical values display key figures of the product and the material temperature as well as the temperature inside the measurement frame. Nominal data from the 2nd level system is also presented. Hot measurement data is converted to cold data.
